Can you read more than one book at a time on the Nook Simple Touch?

And what I mean by that is, can you be reading one book, bookmark it someplace in the middle, and go to another book, read some, bookmark it in the middle, and go to third book (or fourth, fifth, etc)? Basically, can the Nook Simple Touch handle bookmarks in multiple books?
